How To Be More Focused in Life as A Student?

Student Focus Guide - Wiser Word

Being a student is one of the best phase of your life as you have the time to do a lot of things, whether it be related to your studies, passion, extra curricular activities, etc. While I have written this line very simply but the beauty of life is that more often than not it does not open all the cards at the same time for a person to understand the game completely. So here as well, student phase is undoubtedly the best but the main ingredient that completely go missing during that time is AWARENESS of the situation and time. Students tend to get confused and lose focus thinking that they are stuck in a very difficult phase of studying since they still happen to be in a growing phase physically, emotionally, socially and also mentally. These 5 pointers will help you in being more focused in life and less bothered thinking about unimportant things –

1. Be Less Cluttered and Stay Calm –

Being cluttered and restless is a part of student’s life as almost every now and then they come across new learnings and experiences. However, you should start practicing being calm and composed no matter what situation is thrown at you be it academics or extra curricular. The general feeling at such unwanted times is nervousness, trying to get rid of the situation anyhow, feeling ashamed for no reason, and appear to be cluttered, clumsy and sometimes immature but now when you know all this feeling pattern, the best idea is to try a new approach of being calm and thinking about the correct step to take at that time, just try and win the first initial seconds during nervousness, there will be times when you will fail in doing so but surely that will not exceed more than a few times. So yes, actively try and stay calm and composed in unwanted situations.

2. Prioritize Based on Weightage of Situations –

Like gold and silver has its own different values, similarly you should start identifying the more important aspects and the less important aspects in your life at a certain point. Keeping everything on same scale and giving equal importance to each scenario is not going to take you anywhere and you will stay out of focus. Always try and make better sense prevail in terms of prioritizing the importance of anything. Whether it is related to your studies, a friend, something in the family or so on. A simple example would be suppose you were asked a question in your class by your teacher in front of everyone but you couldn’t answer it, so in such situation you should not feel bad about it and keep this negative thought with you for long. Instead you should make sure that the next time you’ll try and tackle it well by either answering well or conversing with the teacher saying Sorry Mam I am yet to study this or I have kind of forgotten the answer to it and so on. This will make you start owning up to things.

3. Pickup some Sport or Physical Activity if not Already –

All work and no play makes jack a dull boy may sound repetitive but it is genuinely true in the real world. Just memorizing all your books will not help you in the long run and you may feel lost in real life. Sports build character and makes you street smart in a lot of ways. Whether it is to present yourself or freely express your skills Sports builds confidence and one learning leads to another making your anticipation power strong. Also, this helps you in staying fit which ultimately is one of the top requirements in staying focused. When in sports, you experience miraculous moments where you kind of win an extremely lost situation and vice versa, this thing can teach you a lot in life.

4. Stay Away from Distractions and Wrong Company –

When you are a student, the number of distractions around you are high and it is very important that you stay away from such kind of distractions not just because you want to focus on your studies but also making sure that you don’t indulge in wrong distractions which degrades your life negatively. Choosing right company and friends is equally important as it is directly proportional to staying away from distractions. If you identify that you are in a wrong company then without any hesitation you should start maintaining a distance from it, if that is making you suffer. This may seem difficult at the start but will help you in the long run and here you will start understanding how prioritizing yourself is important.

5. Learn and Move Ahead, Don’t Get Stuck –

Life is unpredictable and hence it will show its ups and down periodically. Once this happens to you when you are a student, you tend to take things to your hear and start overthinking about it too much. Crying over spilt milk is never a good idea. You should start changing your approach here and start to learn from things and move ahead with a positive and focused mindset. It is not necessary that you’ll learn just from your experiences, you can even become an observatory learner and add to your knowledge as and when gathered. Learning from mistakes will make your anticipation power better in near future and your perspective towards things that you first got worries will completely start changing and become a cake walk.

So yes, when you are a student, just keep in mind that above pointers will help you in becoming more focused in life but you will have to let loose, push yourself and break free from your template thought process at times. Also, if you still feel defocused and restless, you should consider speaking to someone and express yourself freely to them and the best people would be your parents.
